Off to a bad start

For the last few days I’ve been working a bit on a tongue-in-cheek New Years post.  It was going to be an update but generally just silly, stupid stuff.  I was trying to start off the new year with something at least a little upbeat.

Yeah, that post got derailed today.  I got a call from a family member that was unexpected.  I’m not going to go into any details, I don’t talk about other people here, but someone close ended up in the hospital.  Don’t ask for anything more specific, I won’t answer.

It’s bad though. Continue reading

Enjoying Bachelorhood

With my current single-hood, and with the lack of interest in dating, I’m aware that the blog hasn’t been particularly interesting nor will that probably change much any time soon.  That’s part of the reason I did a drunken post over the weekend about how much I love eating p*ssy.  Just because I’m celibate at the moment doesn’t mean I can’t relive some fun memories.

The thing is, I’m really digging being single right now.  I’m not looking around.  At all.  I even took down the only dating site profile I still had up.  Nada.  And it’s awesome.  It’s given me plenty of time to work on a few things, get my head on straight, and stop worrying about a lot of stupid shit.  If I feel like being a lazy ass and sitting around in sweat pants on a Saturday drinking cheap beer there’s no reason why I shouldn’t.  Fuck yeah.  Or putting up drunken blog posts about going down on women.  Why not? Two Weeks

Jeez, time flies when you’re having fun, right?  I was looking at my reader today and realized it has been almost two weeks since my last post.  Not so long ago I was posting daily, what happened?  Well, I’ve been busy writing, just not here.

Some of you know that I’ve been working on some projects that are little more involved than blog posts.  For the last two decades I’ve wanted to be a published writer and I’m finally putting in the elbow grease.  A large portion of my free time is no longer free for blogging but other progress is being made.

For the last two weeks I’ve been neck deep in a short novella (or a long short story, depending on your perspective).  It would be easy to say I’m excited about this piece but I’m excited about every piece.  Every project is a little better than the previous one, there’s always something to learn, and the next will be even better.  That’s the goal at least.

Last night I finished the first draft.  There’s something amazing about finishing a first draft, a terrific feeling that is quickly countered when I re-read it and realize how much more work still needs to be done.  But for tonight I’m basking in the warm glow of vodka and accomplishment.

Google backs off…

A couple days ago I wrote a post about Google changing it’s content guidelines for their Blogger site, Explicit Posts.  I copied the email they sent me about their new restrictions on explicit content.  Well, apparently I wasn’t the only person that had an opinion on the topic.

Today, I received a second email from Blogger rescinding the guideline change.

This week, you received an email telling you about some changes we were making to the Blogger Content Policy. In that email, we announced a change to Blogger’s porn policy stating that blogs that distributed sexually explicit images or graphic nudity would be made private.

We’ve received lots of feedback about making a policy change that impacts longstanding blogs and the negative impact on individuals who post sexually explicit content to express their identities.

We appreciate the feedback. Instead of making this change, we will be maintaining our existing policies.

What this means for your blog:
Commercial porn will continue to be prohibited.
If you have pornographic or sexually explicit content on your blog, you must turn on the adult content setting so a warning will show.

A Fun Reminder

I haven’t talked about Jenn in a long, long time.  You probably don’t don’t even remember the last time I wrote about her, I know I don’t.

I met Jenn back in 2008.  I was going through a rough patch, Cat and I had just opened up our marriage and I was separated from our daughter.  Work had just moved me to the other side of the country, I didn’t know anyone so I put up a w4m CL ad for a pen pal.  It was mostly a joke, I didn’t think I’d get any good responses.  In the ad I mentioned that I’d prefer to message with an attractive woman because that would be good for my ego.  Maybe because it was written in a joking manner there were actually quite a few responses.  Jenn’s was the best.

Things started out entirely platonic, we chatted about relationships, life, and a bit about everything.  She was smart, funny, and a great pen pal.  The reason she’d responded to the ad was because she was new to the area too, she’d just moved there to be with her long term girlfriend.  And she was hot. A New Year

I wanted to write about Australia while the memories were still fresh (there’s still more coming) but that means that I’ve put off other posts.  Like New Years.  Usually I avoid those kind of arbitrary milestone posts because on their own they don’t really mean much.  They’re like birthdays, it’s just a number, nothing has really changed from the day before.  This year though, I actually wanted to write.

The beginning of 2014 I was bored, lonely, and indifferent about my life.  Things weren’t all bad but life was dull and without any promising prospects I didn’t have a lot of optimism for the future.  I was just kind of trudging through, surviving day to day.

The end of 2014, December 31st, I was in Australia with Sharn and a few of her friends, drinking and watching the Sydney New Years Eve fireworks on the TV.  Like usual, I did a mental review of the year and was surprised at just how crazy 2014 was.  Most of my year-end reviews don’t have much to comment on but 2014 was different.  There were so many ups and downs and all-arounds.  Good, bad, and just about everything in between. Rough few days

Probably the most interesting part of yesterday was seeing the various commentary on different posts.  There are quite a few people who seem really eager to paint me with a variety of vulgar colors.  Some of them even quoted parts of my posts and tried to analyze me.  Most believe that the sex was the problem… which indicates their one dimensional outlook on relationships and a complete ignorance of most everything I’ve written.

So, let me make this abundantly clear IT’S NOT ABOUT THE SEX.

Let me put it this way, our relationship status is a perfect analogy;  Ann open, me closed.  That’s pretty much it in a nutshell. Continue reading

In case you haven’t noticed…

Suddenly there are menus and widgets all over the place?  WTF is going on?

Actually, those widgets and menus were always there… you just couldn’t really see them.

There has been something of a face lift here at Id’s Redbook.  I really, really liked the old theme… except for one tiny, little detail.  All of the widgets and menus were at the bottom of the page.  Like, dead last, below the post, the comments, and everything else.  If I could have just placed them in a side bar, it would have been perfect, but nooooooooooo that’s not possible with that theme (it might have been possible if I was willing to shell out $30 for a “custom” theme, but fuck that).

So, I’ve been wanting to tweak the page for a while now but never got around to it.  Today, I was stuck at home waiting for the mechanic to finish with my car, bored out of my mind, and decided to fuck around with it for a while.  This is a new theme we’re trying on for size.

The site is in no way perfect, it’s still a work in progress and it’s only marginally better than it was before, but at least you all can see the widgets and shit.

Now, if I could just figure out how to get rid of the stupid header on every post.

So, if any of you tech-savvy geniuses out there know how to do that, I would appreciate a heads up.

Otherwise, stay tuned for your regularly scheduled broadcasts.

Show me the money!

Today I’m going to talk about two things that I almost never talk about here, money and politics, because I heard a story on the radio that really irritated me.  I mean, things never piss me off, right?  It’s so out of the ordinary.

On NPR they were discussing the Obama administration’s comments on ways to raise money for highway repairs.  One of the possible “fixes” is to open up interstate highways to be tolled.  The Washington Post article.

Apparently, no one has any money to pay for road repairs.  The costs have increased beyond the money that has been raised by “traditional” means.  Traditionally, these were covered by taxes on gas purchases, but those have been declining as cars get more efficient (according to the article, anyway).  The tolls would theoretically pay for repairing roads, passing on the costs to the people who use the roads.

Now, this really, really pissed me off. Continue reading

Friday Night Music

Forgive me if I’m not quite my cranky, crotchety, energetically spiteful self this evening, it has been a busy week.  My work is normally quite easy and stress free, not so much this week.  I’ve been fielding issues seemingly non-stop all week, calls and emails at all hours.  I’m exhausted.  I’m bone-weary, head full of sand, rock bottom exhausted.

Normally, I’d be full of piss and vinegar because it’s Friday night and I have two whole days of full-on madness to look forward to.  Now, I just want to go to bed and sleep for 48 hours.

I wanted to put up something interesting (one of the two poetry responses I’m working on), funny, or at least mildly entertaining, but I don’t have the energy to do any of that.  So instead, I’m going to put up links to a couple fun songs.

Side note: when searching for a good video to put up there were a bunch of “recommended” videos of Justin Beiber and Miley Cyrus.  It made me wonder, does anyone else ever wish those two would go on tour together and their plane would mysteriously disappear in the Bermuda Triangle?  That would make me happy.

The good news is that when I stopped at the corner store on the way home they had a huge sale on Captain Morgan…  Here’s to music and cheap booze!
