Sex and Marriage are for Procreation?

One of the new trends in the homophobic, fundamental, conservative groups around the US is to use “procreation” as a justification to avoid giving homosexuals the right to marry.  They claim that Marriage is purely about procreation and since homosexuals cannot procreate they should not be allowed to marry.

That’s the biggest piece of BS I’ve heard in a long time.  And yet the argument has somehow made it to the US Supreme Court.

What does marriage have to do with procreation?  Absolutely nothing.  Justices, you heard it here first.

What?  Yeah, you read it.  Marriage and procreation are two totally different things, completely and utterly unrelated.

I’m not an expert on marriage vows, but I pretty sure there’s nothing in there that says “And I will impregnate you with my sperm.  The spermatozoa will travel from my penis into your uterus and fertilize your eggs.  Our chromosomes will join together and that egg will grow and multiply for the next 9 months until a child is born of our union.”

Marriage = Procreation?  That is stupid on so many levels.

Ok, so what does that mean for people who are sterile?  Oh, I’m sorry you had childhood cancer that ruined your ovaries but you can’t get married to the man of your dreams because you can’t have children.

That’s retarded.

I was married, had a kid, then got a vasectomy.  A couple years later I got divorced.  Does this mean I can’t remarry because I got my tubes chopped?  No baby-batter, no marriage certificate?

Or what about elderly folks.  They’re past the age of reproduction, but they want to get married… too bad, so sad, no babies – no marriage.

Or what about the people who have genetic issues that they don’t want to pass on to their children?  They want to get married and adopt.  Too bad, your sacrifice to your unborn children means you can’t marry the woman you love.

And what about the fundamental, conservative Marriages that use birth control?  Maybe they already had a kid or two, can’t afford any more, so they go back on the pill.  Oh, I’m sorry, you’re marriage has now been invalidated because you’ve stopped procreating.

Marriage - procreation

I could do this all day.

Marriage = Procreation?  Bullshit.  Procreation has nothing to do with marriage, love does.  Yeah, I fucking said it.  Marriage is about love.  I mean, you would have to be crazy, head-over-heels in love to sign a contract legally obligating you to your significant other.  I mean, how bat-shit, crazy in-love do you have to be to invite the government into your relationship?  If two people want to sign that contract, who are you to say they can’t?

Rapists, lawyers, felons, child molesters, violent criminals, polygamists, gang members, and politicians can all get married, but two guys can’t because they can’t make babies?  How much sense does that make?  None.  Even atheists can get married.  Take that Church!

Those fundamentalists are so worried about homosexuals “tarnishing” the institution of marriage, well I would say that rapists, lawyers, felons, violent criminals, child molesters, polygamists, gang members, and politicians tarnish the institution a lot more than a loving gay couple.  Especially politicians, it seems like every week one of them is getting busted fucking around.

You really want to reinforce the institution of marriage?  Let in the gays and kick out the politicians.

But that’s a logical point of view, that doesn’t work with those arguing faith.

This point of view, that marriage is purely for procreation, also illustrates how all religious fundamentalists are mother fuckers.  And I mean that in the most literal sense.  As in, they won’t have sex until they get married, and marriage is purely for procreation, so every single one of these fundamentalists are either mother fucking, or mother-to-be fucking.  Mother fuckers.  Yup, I went there.
